The Maremagnum Classical Culture Festival returns to the Centre Cultural La Misericòrdia for its 11th edition, taking place from March 26 to 29. Organized by the Consell de Mallorca in collaboration with the Associació Maremagnum Balears, the event will transform the venue into an immersive space dedicated to the exploration of Greco-Roman civilizations through a diverse program of free activities open to all audiences.
This year’s edition is presented under the theme “A Journey with Charon: Death and Killing in Rome,” focusing on concepts such as mortality, violence, funerary rituals, and systems of power in the ancient world. The program offers a multidisciplinary approach that examines topics ranging from political assassinations to religious and military practices.

The festival reinforces La Misericòrdia as a key cultural hub for historical dissemination, bringing classical heritage closer to the public through engaging and educational formats. A significant component of this year’s edition is the School Forum, which will involve around 700 students, providing a hands-on and academically grounded introduction to the ancient world.
The program includes lectures, round tables, guided tours, and interactive activities designed to combine academic rigor with public engagement. Highlights include expert talks on influential historical figures and themes related to magic, politics, and social structures in classical antiquity, as well as a round table featuring specialists from fields such as archaeology, anthropology, and biology.
Interactive experiences play a central role in the festival, particularly during the family forum, which will feature workshops, historical reenactments, and educational activities. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore aspects of daily life in ancient Rome, including military practices, mythology, traditional crafts, and symbolic rituals such as the lighting of the sacred fire of Vesta.
Additional activities include a guided route through classical myths in Palma, theatrical micro-performances depicting themes of power and betrayal, and live demonstrations inspired by ancient medical practices and ceremonial traditions.
The festival will conclude with a specialized session on funerary practices in the classical period at the Son Fornés archaeological site, offering participants further insight into ancient societies through expert-led interpretation and a guided visit.
With its comprehensive and accessible program, the Maremagnum Festival continues to position itself as a leading platform for the promotion of classical culture, fostering a deeper understanding of the ancient world and its lasting influence on contemporary society.
