Approximately twenty residents aged over 65 took part in an emotional management workshop held in Formentera, aimed at promoting psychological well-being and enhancing personal autonomy among older adults. The activity took place at the island’s Day Centre as part of a broader initiative focused on strengthening mental health support for the senior population.
This program is included in a wider strategy that involves the implementation of more than fifty workshops across the Balearic Islands. Its primary objective is to provide older individuals with practical tools to recognize, understand, and manage their emotions in a healthy and balanced way.

Throughout the session, participants engaged in activities focused on emotional awareness, effective communication of feelings, and stress management. The workshop created a safe and supportive environment that encouraged interaction and the sharing of personal experiences, contributing to improved self-esteem and overall quality of life.
The initiative addresses key challenges faced by older generations, such as loneliness, bereavement, and life transitions associated with aging, all of which can impact emotional stability. Many individuals in this age group have had limited exposure to emotional education, making it more difficult to cope with these situations.
Research has shown that developing emotional skills plays a crucial role in preventing mental health issues and promoting overall well-being. Providing opportunities for learning and emotional expression in later life is therefore both necessary and highly effective.
This initiative forms part of a comprehensive public strategy aimed at enhancing emotional well-being and mental health, reinforcing a preventive approach that recognizes lifelong emotional education as a fundamental component of a healthier and more resilient society.
