The Department of Education and Universities of the Balearic Islands will strengthen music education within the public school system by transforming CEIP Poeta Villangómez in Ibiza into an integrated center for elementary music education starting in the 2026–2027 academic year. This initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at enhancing artistic training from early educational stages.
The project will be implemented progressively, beginning with early childhood education and the first year of primary school. It follows an innovative model that places music at the core of the educational experience, integrating artistic practice into daily school life while fostering social cohesion among students.

In the initial phase, students will receive instruction in music and movement, while the school choir will become the central element of the program. This approach ensures full student participation and promotes the development of transversal skills such as communication, active listening, and discipline.
As the program evolves, instrumental workshops and additional training activities will be introduced, enabling the creation of school orchestras or bands. From the third year of primary education onwards, students will be able to choose between two pathways: a structured curriculum in elementary music education or a general participation track focused on choir and musical initiation.
The initiative includes the gradual integration of specialized teaching staff in music and performing arts, responsible for delivering subjects such as music theory, choir, and instrumental practice. This pathway will allow students to obtain official certification and continue their studies at conservatories.
The instrumental offering will include both string and wind instruments, tailored to the school’s organization, with the aim of developing collective musical projects that strengthen the school’s identity.
This project is part of a wider effort to expand specialized education in the Balearic Islands, increasing the number of schools offering music education from an early age.
At the same time, progress continues in the development of educational infrastructure, including the construction of the new CEIP Es Faralló in Santa Eulària. With a capacity for 450 students and an investment exceeding €9.5 million, the new school is expected to be operational by the 2027–2028 academic year, improving educational provision and ensuring adequate schooling conditions.
Through these initiatives, the Government reaffirms its commitment to educational quality, pedagogical innovation, and the comprehensive development of students across the archipelago.
