The President of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Margalida Prohens, has led the award ceremony for the 2025 Cornelius Atticus distinctions, recognizing two outstanding figures for their long-standing contributions to the development of sport in the region. The awards were granted to Josefina Avilés, posthumously, and Ponç Bover, highlighting their significant impact on the Balearic sports community.
The ceremony took place at Es Baluard Museum and brought together institutional representatives and members of the sports sector, reaffirming the relevance of these awards as one of the highest recognitions for sporting careers in the Balearic Islands.

Josefina Avilés Ferrer dedicated more than 40 years to the administrative development and promotion of sports, with a particular focus on school-based programs. Her work included the organization and support of numerous sporting events, youth activities, and educational initiatives, contributing to the promotion of physical activity among young people. She also collaborated closely with several sports federations, playing an important role in the organizational framework of regional sport.
Ponç Bover Amengual is widely recognized for his achievements in athletics, with a career marked by titles and records that remained benchmarks in the Balearic rankings for many years. In addition to his athletic accomplishments, he has been actively involved as a coach and promoter of sports competitions, supporting the growth of various disciplines.
Established in 1996 and expanded to include a female category in 2017, the Cornelius Atticus awards honor individuals who have dedicated more than 25 years to the advancement of sport. The distinction recognizes contributions across different roles, including athletes, coaches, administrators, and promoters.
The ceremony emphasized the importance of these awardees as role models, underlining their role in fostering key values such as perseverance, dedication, and commitment, which are essential both in sport and in society.
