The Ethnographic Museum of Ibiza Can Ros has introduced three new temporary exhibitions for 2026, offering a renewed interpretation of the island’s traditional culture. These exhibitions explore key aspects of everyday rural life, providing insight into Ibiza’s historical, social, and cultural development.

The exhibition program focuses on three main themes: traditional courtship practices and family formation, historical systems of measurement before the adoption of the metric system, and the cultural and economic significance of esparto grass. Together, these perspectives offer a comprehensive understanding of traditional lifestyles and their role in shaping Ibiza’s cultural identity.

The Ethnographic Museum of Ibiza presents three new perspectives on traditional culture for the 2026 Ibiza

One exhibition examines rural courtship as a structured social practice governed by community norms and family influence. Another presents traditional tools and terminology related to historical measurement systems, featuring interactive elements that allow visitors to engage with past commercial practices. The third exhibition highlights the collection and transformation of esparto, emphasising its importance as a sustainable material within Mediterranean culture.

The curatorial approach combines research and public engagement, integrating educational and interactive resources designed to reach a broad audience. This methodology enhances the interpretation of exhibited objects, providing deeper context regarding their social, symbolic, and cultural significance.

Now open to visitors, the exhibitions will remain available until December 19, 2026, during regular museum hours. This initiative strengthens the museum’s role as a key institution for preserving and promoting Ibiza’s ethnographic heritage.
