The collaboration between the Regional Health Department and the Spanish Association Against Cancer in the Balearic Islands has strengthened participation in the colorectal cancer early detection program through a strategy based on direct and personalized contact with the target population. This approach, focused on telephone outreach, has proven effective in increasing awareness and encouraging individuals to take part in screening tests.

During the first year of implementation, trained volunteers managed thousands of calls directed at men and women aged between 50 and 69, the priority group for the program. Among those who answered the calls, seven out of ten expressed their willingness to undergo screening after receiving information about the importance of early detection, highlighting the effectiveness of personalized communication in preventive healthcare.

The initiative has also contributed to improving data quality by updating contact information and refining records, thereby enhancing the overall efficiency of the invitation system. Additionally, the feedback collected has provided valuable insights into the reasons behind low participation rates, supporting the development of targeted improvement strategies.

In terms of coverage, the program reached 96% of the target population in 2025, representing a significant increase compared to previous years. This progress reflects a sustained effort to expand preventive health measures and improve public engagement in cancer screening programs.

The operation is supported by a dedicated call center based in Palma, staffed by volunteers trained in health promotion. Their role has been essential in raising awareness, providing clear information and addressing concerns related to the screening process.

This initiative underscores the importance of community-based intervention models in healthcare, particularly in preventive programs where active public participation is crucial to achieving effective outcomes.
