A strategic initiative has been launched to advance the environmental and heritage restoration of the Alcanada power plant, a landmark site recognized as a cultural asset. This project represents a key step toward the recovery of a historically significant facility that has experienced substantial deterioration due to prolonged inactivity.

The plan focuses on a comprehensive decontamination process aimed at removing hazardous materials and ensuring safe conditions for future use. The intervention is technically complex, requiring specialized procedures to manage industrial residues and assess soil contamination through ongoing studies.

The estimated budget for the decontamination phase is approximately nine million euros, subject to variation depending on the findings of environmental assessments. The project is partially supported by European funding mechanisms designed to assist regions undergoing socio-economic and environmental transitions.

In recent years, preliminary actions have been implemented to halt further degradation of the site. These measures have included preventive maintenance, land clearing, safety enhancements, and targeted structural repairs, laying the groundwork for the next phase of redevelopment.

Located in the municipality of Alcúdia, the Alcanada facility stands as a significant milestone in Mallorca’s industrial history. Beyond its technological relevance, it also reflects a broader social legacy, including the development of worker housing and community services. This makes it one of the few examples of industrial settlements in the Balearic Islands, highlighting its uniqueness within the national heritage landscape.
