A total of 25,000 students from 2nd year of secondary education (ESO), as well as 6th and 4th year of primary education, begin IAQSE assessment tests this Monday, April 27, across educational centres in the Balearic Islands. These evaluations focus on competencies in languages and mathematics and will take place until April 30 in centres included in the control sample managed by the Institute for Evaluation and Quality of the Education System.
This year’s implementation introduces greater organisational flexibility for schools that directly manage the administration of the tests, allowing them to conduct assessments within an extended period from April 27 to May 22. This approach supports better planning and adaptation to each centre’s operational needs.

As part of efforts to ensure equal access, test materials have been adapted for students with visual impairments, enabling their full participation under equitable conditions. This measure aligns with broader accessibility initiatives within the education system.
In addition to standard diagnostic assessments, an external evaluation has been introduced for 6th grade primary students, involving 51 schools. The aim is to assess students’ competency levels at the end of this educational stage and provide relevant data for system monitoring.
Measures have also been implemented to improve conditions for staff responsible for marking the tests, including an increase in compensation for sample-based correction tasks.
The IAQSE assessments aim to provide an accurate evaluation of students’ competency development, offering educational centres a comprehensive overview to support decision-making and the implementation of potential improvements in teaching and learning processes.
