A new step has been taken to enhance inclusive access to natural environments with the opening of the Betlem II shelter, a facility designed to ensure universal accessibility. Located within the public Betlem estate in Artà, the shelter will open to visitors on May 1, expanding the network of adapted accommodations in publicly managed natural areas.

The new facility, operated by IBANAT, has been developed following universal accessibility standards, with a particular focus on people with reduced mobility. The shelter accommodates up to four people and includes a bedroom, a kitchen-living area, and a fully adapted bathroom, along with barrier-free access features to ensure safety and ease of use.

The design has been carefully integrated into the surrounding natural landscape, balancing environmental preservation with functional use. The addition of an access ramp allows comfortable entry, reinforcing the inclusive nature of the infrastructure.

Betlem II complements the existing Betlem I shelter, further establishing the public estate as a benchmark for sustainable, responsible, and accessible use of natural spaces. The expansion of this network reflects a broader strategy aimed at improving user experience and ensuring equal access to natural heritage.

The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Natural Environment, Joan Simonet, highlighted that the opening of this facility strengthens the commitment to accessibility and inclusion in public spaces. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that no one is excluded from enjoying natural environments due to mobility limitations.

Reservations for the shelter will be available through the usual booking channels, allowing visitors to plan their stay in an inclusive and environmentally respectful setting. This initiative contributes to the development of a more inclusive infrastructure network, promoting a balance between conservation, public use, and equal access.
