Meeting with parliamentary spokespersons to shape social measures in response to the Middle East conflict
The Ministry of Families, Social Welfare and Dependency Care has launched a round of institutional meetings with parliamentary groups to develop a coordinated response to the potential social impact of the conflict in the Middle East. As part of this initiative, Minister Sandra Fernández met with spokespersons from the Committee on Social Affairs, Equality and Human Rights.
The meeting marks the beginning of a structured dialogue process aimed at sharing assessments, gathering input and advancing the design of measures to anticipate possible consequences in the Balearic Islands. This first session sets the foundation for further discussions in the coming weeks, with the goal of reaching broad political consensus.

Participants included representatives from the main parliamentary groups, such as Pedro Álvarez, Amanda Fernández, Marta Carrió, Joana Mª Gomila, José María García and independent MP Agustín Buades. A separate meeting is expected to take place with VOX spokesperson Manuela Cañadas.
During the session, the importance of maintaining open communication channels across political forces was emphasized, ensuring a response that is coordinated, effective and tailored to the social realities of the islands. The minister highlighted the need to share information and work through consensus to safeguard individuals and families who may be most affected.
This initiative builds on previous engagements with public administrations and social organizations, forming part of a broader consultation process that will lead to the development of a package of social measures adapted to emerging needs. These actions are expected to be implemented promptly and adjusted according to the evolving international context.
The overarching goal is to strengthen institutional preparedness and ensure social protection in a context of uncertainty, with particular focus on supporting the most vulnerable groups.
