The Conservatori Superior de Música de les Illes Balears (CSMIB) has awarded the Medal of Honor to Mallorcan guitarist and composer Gabriel Estarellas, recognizing his outstanding artistic and academic career. The official ceremony took place at the conservatory’s auditorium, where members of the music and academic community gathered to pay tribute to one of the most influential figures in classical guitar.
The award was presented by the Minister of Education and Universities, Antoni Vera, who emphasized Estarellas’ contribution to the international promotion of Balearic musical culture. The tribute event also featured a concert dedicated to his work, with performers interpreting compositions that reflect his creative legacy and enduring influence.

Throughout his professional career, Estarellas has combined teaching and performance at the highest level. He served as a professor of guitar at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid and has delivered masterclasses across Europe and the Americas. As a soloist, he has collaborated with leading orchestras, building a strong international presence over decades.
This distinction is part of the CSMIB’s initiative to reinstate its Medals of Honor, aimed at acknowledging artists whose work has significantly contributed to the cultural development of the Balearic Islands. With this recognition, the institution reinforces its commitment to artistic excellence and the promotion of musical heritage.
