Nearly 300 people participated in the First Choir Gathering of the Personal Autonomy Promotion Centres (CPAP), an initiative led by the Consell de Mallorca that brought together users from various centres in a day focused on social interaction, participation, and community building. The event was held at the Misericòrdia courtyard, providing a meaningful setting for shared cultural expression.
The President of the Council, Llorenç Galmés, attended the gathering and highlighted the active role of older people in society. He emphasized their experience, commitment and continued contribution, stressing the importance of creating spaces where their participation is visible and valued.

Also present were the Minister of Social Welfare and President of the Institut Mallorquí d’Afers Socials, Guillermo Sánchez Cifre, the IMAS Vice-President, Magdalena García Gual, and the Island Director for Community Care and Personal Autonomy Promotion, Catalina Maria Mascaró Bestard. All representatives underlined the importance of such initiatives in strengthening connections between centres and fostering a cohesive social network among participants.
Throughout the event, several choirs performed pieces from their repertoire, concluding with a joint rendition of “La Balanguera”, a symbolic moment reflecting unity and shared identity. The gathering showcased the commitment of these centres to promoting active ageing through cultural, educational and leisure activities.
More than 3,100 people regularly participate in activities organized by IMAS across its seven CPAP centres in Mallorca. These facilities play a key role in enhancing personal autonomy, emotional wellbeing and social inclusion among older adults, contributing significantly to their quality of life.
This first choir gathering reinforces a strategic approach aimed at encouraging active participation, strengthening community ties and building inclusive spaces for older generations across the island.
