The Govern de les Illes Balears has urged the Spanish Government to implement compensatory measures addressing insularity in order to reduce the competitive disadvantage faced by the Balearic cultural sector. This position was presented during the Cultural Sector Conference, where national funding strategies were discussed.
The Regional Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sports, Jaume Bauzà, stressed the importance of incorporating allocation criteria that reflect the additional costs linked to island territories, particularly in terms of transport, logistics and production conditions. These structural factors, he noted, directly affect the development and sustainability of cultural initiatives.

Bauzà also conveyed the concerns of the performing arts sector regarding the reduction in state funding distributed through the INAEM, highlighting its impact on long-established companies and cultural organisations.
In response, the Balearic Government has called for a revision of funding frameworks, the introduction of tailored support schemes and the establishment of stable financial conditions to safeguard cultural activity across the islands.
Additionally, the minister raised the situation of the Museo de Mallorca, formally requesting the reopening of its archaeology galleries, which have remained closed for over fifteen years due to structural issues. He also urged the Ministry of Culture to proceed with the planned climate control works within the current year.
The Balearic Government concluded by advocating for stronger inter-administrative coordination to ensure that national cultural policies fully account for territorial specificities and promote equal opportunities regardless of geographic conditions.
