Mallorca’s interurban bus network will introduce new travel regulations on June 7 that will allow passengers to travel with their pets on TIB bus services. The measure, approved by the Consorci de Transports de Mallorca, expands access conditions within the public transport system and reflects the growing demand for more flexible and inclusive mobility options across the island.

Under the new rules, passengers will be allowed to board with dogs, cats, ferrets and small non-farm birds, provided the animals travel inside a carrier and do not pose any inconvenience or risk to other users. Until now, only assistance dogs were permitted on board. The updated regulation also specifies that each passenger may carry only one pet carrier, which must remain on the floor or on the passenger’s lap without occupying a seat.

The regulation expressly prohibits access with exotic animals such as reptiles, spiders or insects, while maintaining the current exemptions for assistance dogs. In these cases, guide and assistance dogs may continue to travel without a carrier as long as the user presents the official accreditation issued by the competent authority.

Beyond pet access, the new framework also introduces more detailed rules regarding hand luggage, suitcases, bicycles, baby strollers and other personal belongings. The revised standards reinforce coexistence and safety measures aimed at improving travel quality and ensuring a more organised and accessible public transport experience throughout Mallorca.

The regulation will come into force one month after its official publication and has been developed following a public consultation process involving transport operators, passenger representatives and social organisations linked to accessibility and equality initiatives.
