The Joint Insularity Committee of the Congress and Senate has supported Mallorca’s request for the Spanish Government to promote a new road infrastructure agreement aimed at financing strategic mobility projects across the island. The proposal includes an updated investment forecast of up to €350 million to modernise Mallorca’s road network and complete pending infrastructure projects.

The initiative seeks to recover the funding linked to the previous road agreement while establishing a new cooperation framework to develop key infrastructure projects focused on improving road safety, traffic flow and intermunicipal connectivity. Planned actions include bypass roads, upgraded access routes, new road connections, pedestrian walkways and sustainable mobility measures.

During the debate held in Madrid, representatives highlighted the importance of securing state investment capable of addressing Mallorca’s increasing mobility demands and adapting the island’s infrastructure to current transport needs. The proposal also emphasises the objective of ensuring equal treatment between island territories regarding public infrastructure funding.

The approved motion calls for a financing agreement with characteristics similar to other state investment frameworks applied in island regions, while also updating the outstanding amounts linked to the agreement settled in 2021. In addition, the initiative requests the implementation of an annual investment programme to guarantee the progressive execution of the planned projects.

The proposed investment plan includes projects throughout Mallorca, such as improvements to Palma’s ring road, bypasses in municipalities including Inca, Artà and Campanet, new roundabouts, upgraded urban connections and strategic park-and-ride mobility plans. These measures are intended to improve traffic circulation and strengthen road safety on one of the busiest transport networks in the Balearic Islands.
