The president of the Council of Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, has taken part in an institutional visit to the Reina Sofía National Museum in Madrid to explore the presence of Mallorca-linked artists within the museum’s renewed permanent exhibition dedicated to contemporary art from 1975 to the present day. The visit formed part of an institutional trip connected to Mallorca’s participation in a major heritage exhibition held at the Prado Museum.

During the tour, the institutional delegation was able to discover works by internationally recognised artists connected to Mallorca who are included in the museum’s contemporary curatorial narrative. Among them are Miquel Barceló, Joan Miró, Toni Catany, Susy Gómez and Ana Laura Aláez, creators whose works project Mediterranean culture and artistic identity within one of Europe’s leading contemporary art museums.

One of the most significant moments of the visit focused on a large-scale artwork inspired by Cavall Bernat, an iconic symbol of the Mallorcan landscape. The piece occupies a prominent place within the exhibition and reinforces the international visibility of Mallorca’s cultural and natural identity through contemporary artistic expression.

The institutional visit also highlighted the ability of artists linked to the island to contribute to major contemporary artistic narratives through painting, sculpture, photography and installation art. The collection includes works that reflect a deeply Mediterranean perspective and a constant exploration of identity, materiality and territory.

Museum representatives and cultural officials accompanied the delegation during a visit that reaffirmed the institutional commitment to promoting Mallorca’s artistic heritage and strengthening the international projection of Balearic culture. The presence of these artists at the Reina Sofía further consolidates the international recognition of Mallorca-linked creative talent within the European contemporary art scene.
