Ports de les Illes Balears has collaborated in a marine clean-up operation along the coastline of Sant Elm by providing logistical support for the removal of bulky waste from the seabed and authorising the works carried out in the port area. The initiative forms part of broader sustainability and marine protection policies aimed at preserving the coastal environment of the Balearic Islands.

The operation resulted in the removal of nearly four tonnes of waste accumulated in several coastal areas, particularly around Cala Conills, where the amount of debris discovered exceeded initial expectations. The clean-up was carried out over two working days by a professional team specialised in underwater recovery and marine waste extraction operations.

The initiative is part of a collaborative environmental project involving local authorities, environmental organisations and community associations committed to protecting the marine and coastal environment. Its main objective is to encourage more responsible management of coastal spaces while promoting the active involvement of citizens, the nautical sector and local organisations in marine conservation efforts.

The extraction and handling of the waste materials were performed by professional divers in accordance with regulations governing underwater intervention activities. Once recovered, the waste was transferred to authorised collection points for proper environmental treatment and disposal.

The project is linked to a wider conservation initiative focused on the Sa Dragonera area and highlights the importance of continuing environmental recovery and preservation efforts in sensitive coastal ecosystems across the Balearic Islands. Cooperation between public institutions, environmental entities and local organisations strengthens the commitment to sustainable management of maritime and port environments.

Through this collaboration, PortsIB reinforces its commitment to protecting the marine environment and supporting projects that contribute to coastal sustainability, biodiversity preservation and greater public awareness regarding the importance of maintaining clean and healthy marine ecosystems.
