The Balearic Islands have reinforced their position as a benchmark for environmental quality and coastal sustainability in 2026 with the award of a total of 47 Blue Flags for beaches and port facilities. The official ceremony was held at Port de Sóller and brought together institutional representatives, port authorities and municipal officials from the recognised coastal areas.
This year, the islands achieved 14 distinctions for ports and 33 for beaches, confirming the positive trend in environmental improvement and service quality across the Balearic coastline. Among the main developments is the recovery of Blue Flags for the ports of Sóller and PortoColom, which once again join the facilities already recognised in previous years.
The distinctions awarded to publicly managed ports acknowledge achievements related to sustainability, environmental management, safety, accessibility and the quality of infrastructure for both users and vessels. The consolidation of these recognitions reflects the continuous work carried out to modernise port facilities and promote a more environmentally responsible maritime model.

Regarding beaches, the Balearic Islands now have 33 awarded coastal areas, increasing the number of recognised beaches compared to the previous year and maintaining a positive trend linked to improvements in water quality, safety standards and visitor services.
The presentation of the Blue Flags highlights the cooperation between public administrations, management entities and technical teams responsible for maintaining and protecting coastal spaces. The shared objective is to guarantee safe, accessible and sustainable coastal environments adapted to both environmental needs and tourism-related activities.
The Blue Flag distinction recognises compliance with demanding international standards related to water quality, environmental protection, environmental education, safety and the proper management of services and infrastructure.
With these results, the Balearic Islands continue to rank among the Spanish regions with the highest number of environmental distinctions, reinforcing their commitment to coastal conservation and the continuous improvement of ports and beaches.
