The Mallorca Council has approved a new grant programme aimed at supporting audiovisual co-productions with minority Mallorcan participation, reinforcing the island’s position within the audiovisual industry and strengthening its attractiveness as a destination for national and international productions. The initiative will be managed through the Mallorca Responsible Tourism Foundation and promoted by the Mallorca Film Commission.

The programme has been allocated a total budget of €300,000, representing an increase of €100,000 compared with the previous edition. Individual projects may receive grants of up to €100,000 and the scheme is open to feature films, short films, television series and documentaries developed under co-production agreements.

€300,000 to Boost Film Productions and Audiovisual Co-Productions in Mallorca

The funding programme forms part of a broader strategy to encourage the growth of creative and cultural industries while promoting economic diversification, innovation and the creation of specialised employment opportunities. It is also designed to contribute to reducing tourism seasonality and generating economic activity throughout the year.

In recent years, the Mallorca Film Commission has become a key instrument in attracting film and television productions to the island. Mallorca’s combination of diverse locations, suitable infrastructure, international connectivity and experienced industry professionals has strengthened its competitiveness as a destination for audiovisual projects.

Beyond the promotional visibility generated by productions filmed on the island, audiovisual activity provides significant economic benefits through job creation, demand for supporting services and the development of projects linked to innovation, creativity and the knowledge-based economy.

According to the terms of the call, independent production companies based in Mallorca, registered with the relevant authorities and with at least one year of activity, will be eligible to apply. The Mallorcan participation in each project must remain below 50%, while spending carried out on the island must be equivalent to at least the percentage represented by the minority local participation. In addition, productions must not have started filming before 1 January 2026.

To protect Mallorca’s image as a sustainable and responsible destination, projects that promote inappropriate behaviour or may negatively affect the island’s reputation will not be eligible for funding. Advertising and propaganda-related content will also be excluded.

Applications will be assessed according to several criteria, including the visibility of Mallorcan locations, the expected level of local expenditure, the percentage of filming carried out on the island and the incorporation of values linked to equality, diversity and responsible tourism.

The application period will remain open for twenty working days following the publication of the call, scheduled for early June, and all applications must be submitted through the electronic platform of the Mallorca Responsible Tourism Foundation.
