The transition from the Citizen Card to the new Unified Transport Card has reached its final stage, marking a major milestone in the modernisation of public transport across Mallorca. Since the launch of the new system, more than 175,000 users have obtained the Unified Card, reinforcing a mobility model designed to provide greater integration, convenience and efficiency throughout the island’s transport network.
With the transition period now ending, the Citizen Card will no longer be accepted as a transport ticket from 1 June onwards. From that date, passengers will be required to travel using either the Unified Transport Card or the Intermodal Card, both of which form part of Mallorca’s integrated public transport framework.

Transition to the Unified Transport Card Completed After More Than 175,000 Cards Issued Since October
The implementation of the Unified Card represents a significant step towards the creation of a fully connected transport network, bringing together rail services, metro operations, interurban buses and Palma’s urban bus system under a single user-oriented model. The initiative aims to simplify travel while improving accessibility and connectivity for residents and visitors alike.
Throughout the transition period, an extensive network of service centres and customer assistance offices was made available to facilitate card issuance and ensure a smooth adaptation process. This coordinated effort enabled the majority of public transport users to obtain the new card before the withdrawal of the Citizen Card from the transport system.
Following the completion of the transition, authorities will begin the process of transferring stored balances from the former cards to the new transport cards. In most cases, this procedure will be carried out automatically, while only a limited number of situations involving administrative or data-related issues will require additional verification.
The Unified Transport Card will continue to be issued through the established network of service offices, ensuring ongoing access to the integrated transport system for all users. This guarantees that new applicants can join the system at any time without disruption.
The modernisation programme has also included major technological improvements, notably the introduction of bank card payment across the entire public transport network. This enhancement offers greater convenience and flexibility while providing access to fare reductions for individual passengers and travelling groups.
In addition, holders of the Unified Transport Card and the Intermodal Card will continue to benefit from free public transport throughout 2026. The measure supports sustainable mobility policies, encourages the use of collective transport and contributes to making public mobility more accessible across Mallorca.
The completion of this transition marks another important step in the ongoing transformation of public transport services, strengthening institutional cooperation and advancing towards a more integrated, efficient and user-friendly mobility system for the island.
