Binissalem will celebrate today the highlight of the XXIII Stone and Crafts Fair, transforming the town into a major showcase for local craftsmanship, cultural heritage and gastronomy linked to the island’s long-standing stone-working tradition. The event will bring together residents, visitors, artisans and local organisations in a particularly significant edition marking the 40th anniversary of the installation of the iconic “Picapedrer” sculpture created by master stonemason Guillem Terrassa Pol, known as “Mekis”.
The day will begin with family-friendly and community activities at Passeig des Born, including the “Sponsor a Roof Tile” initiative organised to support restoration works on local parish facilities. Traditional workshops, games and cultural activities will also take place throughout the morning, reinforcing the fair’s strong community spirit.

Binissalem to celebrate the main day of the XXIII Stone and Crafts Fair with gastronomy, tradition and a tribute to ‘Mekis’
One of the most important moments of the programme will take place at midday when Plaça de l’Església becomes the centre of the celebrations for the official opening of the Stone and Crafts Fair. The ceremony will feature the town’s giants and traditional musicians, together with exhibitions and sales of local products and handcrafted goods.
The programme will continue with the traditional stone-working demonstration “Xapam sa pedra”, led by master artisan Bernat Moyà, followed by a tribute to Guillem Terrassa “Mekis” to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the installation of the “Picapedrer” sculpture, one of Binissalem’s most recognisable cultural symbols.
Visitors will then be able to enjoy a performance by Amics del Ball before taking part in one of the day’s most popular events: a vermouth and tapas gathering held between 1.00 pm and 4.00 pm in the town square, accompanied by live music from DJ R&R Star and DJ La Guaquetería. Gastronomy and entertainment are expected to attract large crowds throughout the afternoon.
At 2.00 pm, the traditional rabbit noodle lunch organised by the local senior citizens’ association will take place, followed later by the Jaume Salas Chess Memorial and a large traditional folk dance event that will bring the day’s programme to a close.
Mayor Víctor Martí highlights that this year’s edition will once again showcase the deep historical connection between Binissalem and stone craftsmanship, a tradition that has shaped the town’s architecture, landscape and cultural identity. He also emphasises that the fair will provide an important platform for local artisans, producers and associations while contributing to the municipality’s economic and cultural vitality.
Martí further notes that the tribute to “Mekis” will serve as a recognition of one of the figures who best represents Binissalem’s artisanal heritage. According to the mayor, the fair will continue to act as a meeting point between tradition and innovation, preserving local roots while inspiring future generations.
