People aged 65 and over will once again benefit from the Senior Cinema programme during the 2026-2027 period, an initiative that provides access to movie theatres through specially reduced tickets priced at €2 on one designated day each week. The programme aims to encourage cultural participation among older adults, promote active ageing and support cinema attendance across Spain.

The new edition strengthens a programme that has experienced steady growth since its launch and has contributed to increasing attendance at movie theatres nationwide. Through this initiative, eligible participants will be able to enjoy any film included in the regular screenings of participating cinemas while benefiting from a highly affordable ticket price designed specifically for senior audiences.

The measure is exclusively available to individuals aged 65 or older who legally reside in Spain. Eligibility must be verified through official documentation when purchasing tickets or entering the cinema. Tickets may be obtained either directly at cinema box offices or through authorised online sales channels.

The programme will remain active for up to one year following the allocation of grants to participating cinemas, allowing its implementation throughout the remainder of 2026 and a significant portion of 2027. Seasonal cinemas will apply the initiative according to their operational calendar and opening periods.

Beyond facilitating access to culture, the initiative also seeks to strengthen the sustainability of cinema venues by encouraging in-person attendance at a time when audiovisual consumption habits continue to evolve. Previous editions have demonstrated a strong capacity to attract audiences and stimulate activity in theatres, particularly on the designated discount day.

The 2026-2027 edition introduces an increased financial allocation to support the programme, reflecting the growing demand recorded in recent years. This enhanced investment is intended to ensure the continuity of a measure that has become an important tool for promoting cultural inclusion, social participation and quality of life among older citizens.
