The refuge network managed by the Council of Mallorca has completed the peak hiking and nature tourism season with highly positive results, welcoming a total of 17,443 visitors between March and May. This figure represents an 8% increase compared to the same period last year and confirms the continued growth of these facilities located within some of the island’s most remarkable natural environments.
During the busiest months of the year, the refuges recorded 1,305 more overnight stays than in 2025, highlighting the growing interest in hiking, mountain activities and sustainable tourism experiences. The facilities at Galatzó, Tossals Verds, So n’Amer, Muleta, Can Boi, Pont Romà and Coma d’en Vidal attracted thousands of national and international visitors seeking to discover the natural, cultural and scenic wealth of Mallorca.
Reservation forecasts also indicate that the traditional peak season is extending into June. Occupancy is expected to reach 3,924 booked places during the month, representing a 29% increase compared with the same period of the previous year. This trend reinforces the growing importance of spring as one of the preferred seasons for enjoying outdoor activities and mountain accommodation on the island.

The sustained increase in demand demonstrates the attractiveness of Mallorca’s public refuge network as a sustainable way to explore the island while supporting environmentally responsible tourism. The combination of exceptional landscapes, well-established hiking routes and visitor services tailored to outdoor enthusiasts has strengthened the role of these facilities within Mallorca’s tourism offering.
Educational activities have also played a significant role throughout the academic year. A total of 2,981 students from schools across Mallorca have taken part in overnight stays and environmental education programmes organised within the refuge network. These initiatives help young people connect with nature while promoting values related to sustainability, environmental awareness and social interaction.
Among the most successful programmes was “A Night in the Serra”, which enabled more than a thousand primary school students to enjoy an educational experience immersed in the natural surroundings of Mallorca. Additional participation came through activities linked to the Serra de Tramuntana educational programmes and direct bookings made by schools across the island.
The occupancy and participation figures achieved during this season confirm the strategic importance of Mallorca’s refuge network as a tool for territorial development, sustainable tourism promotion and the preservation and dissemination of the island’s natural and cultural heritage.
