The Ministry of Education and Universities has approved an extraordinary investment of €790,000 to support the technological modernisation of the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). The funding will strengthen the institution’s digital security systems and upgrade key telecommunications infrastructure, ensuring greater resilience and readiness for current and future technological challenges.

A substantial portion of the investment will be used to replace existing corporate firewalls with next-generation cybersecurity solutions. These advanced systems will enhance network protection, improve traffic management and provide stronger safeguards for the university’s digital services, information resources and technological infrastructure.

The project also includes the progressive renewal of the university’s wireless network through the deployment of Wi-Fi 7 technology and the replacement of obsolete equipment. The upgrade will deliver faster connectivity, improved energy efficiency and greater performance in environments with a high concentration of users.

The regional government’s contribution will be complemented by additional funding from the University of the Balearic Islands, reinforcing a shared commitment to digital transformation. This investment will help create a more secure, efficient and future-ready technological environment capable of supporting academic activity, research development and innovation across the university community.
