The Consell de Mallorca’s “Súma’t” sports promotion programme concluded the 2025-26 school year with record participation, reaching 42,302 students from more than 260 primary and secondary schools. The initiative has become a well-established complement to physical education, delivering around 1,700 practical sessions aimed at encouraging physical activity, healthy habits and the discovery of new sporting disciplines among young people across the island.
Designed for students in the final year of each educational stage, the programme combines innovative teaching methods with 90- to 120-minute sessions and educational resources for teachers. New activities introduced this year included climbing initiation workshops and GR trail routes, while fencing continued for a second consecutive year as one of the programme’s featured disciplines.

Water-based activities remain among the most popular options for schools. Team rowing in dragon boats, sailing experiences and canoeing sessions have become some of the most requested proposals and are now considered a regular part of the summer activities organised by many educational centres.
The programme also promotes lesser-known sports such as slingshot shooting, beach volleyball, sailing and canoeing, focusing on values education and the promotion of healthy lifestyles. In addition, students participate in workshops dedicated to emotional wellbeing, mindfulness and first aid, encouraging preventive practices and responsible participation in sport.
Through the “Súma’t a l’esport amb l’elit” initiative, students also have the opportunity to meet elite athletes and leading sports clubs, helping to strengthen the connection between grassroots sport and some of Mallorca’s most prominent sporting organisations.
