The Council of Mallorca and the Institut Mallorquí d’Afers Socials (IMAS) have marked the end of the 2025-2026 academic year for the personal autonomy promotion centres with a gathering attended by 500 users. The event highlighted the role played by these community facilities in preventing dependency and encouraging active and healthy ageing among older residents across the island.
This year, the IMAS network has reached a total of 3,988 users, confirming the steady growth recorded in recent years. The centre in Manacor has the highest participation levels, followed by the Reina Sofía and Avenida Argentina centres in Palma. The network is completed by facilities located in Felanitx, Llucmajor, Petra and Puigpunyent.
During the academic year, a total of 4,755 registrations were recorded across activities structured around six major areas focused on physical, cognitive, emotional and social wellbeing, as well as creativity, expression and digital literacy. Physical wellbeing activities continue to attract the highest participation, followed by programmes linked to creativity and social interaction.

Nearly 4,000 older adults take part in IMAS personal autonomy centres across Mallorca
The progressive expansion of training and occupational programmes has enabled the introduction of new initiatives aimed at preserving physical and cognitive abilities, strengthening social relationships and promoting digital skills. Current programmes cover areas such as physical activity, arts and creativity, language learning, cognitive stimulation, new technologies and healthy lifestyle promotion.
The seven personal autonomy promotion centres perform a key preventive role within the social policies implemented by the Council of Mallorca. Their work is focused on supporting active and independent living, preventing dependency, reducing unwanted loneliness and encouraging the participation of older adults in community life.
The consolidation of this network of services reflects a commitment to a care model centred on wellbeing, health and quality of life, contributing to a more inclusive and socially cohesive society.
