The Haematology Department at Son Llàtzer University Hospital has been awarded the Humans Certification for the care provided to people living with multiple myeloma, recognising the quality of healthcare and the patient-centred approach developed by the multidisciplinary team responsible for treating and monitoring this disease.

The accreditation highlights key aspects such as patient care, coordination among healthcare professionals, support for families, the information provided throughout the care process and the ongoing training of medical staff. The assessment was based on 109 indicators across nine areas of analysis, resulting in an overall score of 81%, corresponding to the highest level of humanisation, Grade A.

Son Llàtzer’s Haematology Department receives Humans Certification for the care of multiple myeloma patients

Among the highest-rated areas are clinical and healthcare assistance, which achieved a score of 93%, and support and guidance for patients and relatives, which received the maximum evaluation. Patient care and coordination between healthcare, social and community services also obtained outstanding results, reflecting the importance of integrated and continuous care.

The Haematology Department currently treats around 200 patients with multiple myeloma and diagnoses between 15 and 20 new cases each year. Care is delivered through a multidisciplinary approach involving specialists in haematology, specialised nursing, hospital pharmacy, radiology, nephrology, cardiology, pathology, clinical laboratories and psychohaematology, among other disciplines.

The evaluation report particularly highlights the accessibility of the team, the close coordination among professionals, the involvement of relatives and the support provided to patients throughout every stage of the disease.

The report also recognises the department’s research activity, which includes participation in clinical trials and projects aimed at expanding therapeutic options and improving treatment opportunities for people affected by multiple myeloma.
