Spain will receive €120.5 million from the European Union Solidarity Fund to support recovery efforts after the severe wave of wildfires that affected the country in 2025. The financial assistance aims to strengthen the response of public administrations to one of the most destructive fire seasons in recent decades, which impacted sixteen autonomous communities and caused significant environmental, economic and social damage.

The funding will be used to finance essential emergency and reconstruction measures. Priority actions include the repair and restoration of critical infrastructure, the reactivation of basic public services, the clean-up and protection of damaged areas, and the preservation of cultural heritage affected by the fires. In addition, the resources will support rescue operations and assistance measures for people who were forced to leave their homes or suffered the consequences of the disaster.

As part of the standard procedure, an initial advance corresponding to twenty-five percent of the total amount has been authorised to cover emergency expenses incurred since the beginning of the crisis. This contribution represents an important mechanism for accelerating recovery efforts and ensuring an effective response to the impact of extreme climate events.

The new allocation further strengthens the role of the European Union Solidarity Fund as one of the main instruments for supporting member states facing natural disasters and major emergencies. The amount granted to Spain represents the largest share of the overall financial package approved for several European countries affected by severe climate-related events, reinforcing European cooperation and resilience in the face of growing environmental challenges.
