The Government of the Balearic Islands has approved the public fees and eligibility criteria for tuition exemptions and fee reductions at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) for the 2026-2027 academic year, with the aim of expanding access to higher education and strengthening financial support for students and their families.
The main development introduced for the upcoming academic year is the revision of the income thresholds that determine eligibility for regional tuition assistance for first enrolment in official undergraduate and master’s degree programmes. The updated socioeconomic criteria, which increase income limits by between 7% and 16% compared with the previous academic year, will allow a greater number of students to benefit from free tuition and financial assistance while maintaining the existing academic performance requirements.
The expansion of these thresholds places the Balearic Islands among the regions offering broader access to publicly supported university education, as the new income limits exceed those applied in other public support systems for students with equivalent academic qualifications. This measure is expected to have a particularly positive impact on single-parent households and other families requiring additional financial support.

At the same time, public university tuition fees will remain unchanged from the 2025-2026 academic year, ensuring financial stability for students enrolled in official undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The academic offer for the upcoming year will also include the corresponding fees for newly introduced degrees, such as the Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Sciences, the Double Degree in Mathematics and Physics, and several new master’s programmes.
Through these measures, the Government of the Balearic Islands reinforces its commitment to an accessible, inclusive and high-quality public university system, while expanding opportunities for students to continue their higher education regardless of their economic circumstances.
