Pollença has begun the installation of 27 memorial stones to honour local residents who were killed or disappeared during the Spanish Civil War and the Franco dictatorship. The initiative, carried out in cooperation with the local council, will take place from 7 to 9 July and aims to preserve the memory of the victims in locations closely connected to their lives.

The first day of the project included the placement of the initial nine memorial stones during a commemorative event attended by relatives of the victims. Each stone has been positioned in a meaningful location that reflects the personal history of the individual being honoured.

Over the three scheduled days, a total of 27 memorial stones will be installed across different streets in Pollença and Port de Pollença. Every location has been agreed with the families to ensure that each tribute accurately reflects the life and legacy of the person remembered.

The project will ultimately commemorate 34 victims from the municipality. The remaining seven memorial stones will be installed during a second phase once the engraving process has been completed, bringing the initiative to its planned conclusion.

The memorial stones are part of a wider European project dedicated to preserving the memory of people persecuted and repressed through commemorative markers placed at locations of personal significance. This initiative reinforces efforts to promote democratic memory while recognising the victims and supporting the preservation of their legacy for future generations.
