The 16th edition of the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest concluded last night at the La Misericòrdia Cultural Centre in Palma with a closing gala presided over by Her Majesty Queen Letizia, once again highlighting one of Mallorca’s leading cultural events. This year’s festival achieved its highest attendance on record, attracting more than 53,500 spectators, over 500 accredited media and industry professionals, and presenting 160 films from 22 countries, confirming its growing international prestige.
Among the accredited media representatives were David Arreza, Director of Thursday Daily Bulletin, and Rosa Maria Cuerda, Communications Manager and Editor, attending on behalf of the publishing group that includes Thursday Daily Bulletin, Revista Lloseta, Sa Revista, Revista TDB Inca and Binimel. They expressed their sincere appreciation to the festival organisers for the accreditation that enabled them to cover the event and enjoy one of the Balearic Islands’ most significant cultural celebrations.

16th edition of the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest
One of the evening’s highlights was the presentation of the prestigious Master of Cinema Award to acclaimed French composer Alexandre Desplat, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to world cinema. The award was presented by Queen Letizia before an audience that also included Javier Bardem, Victoria Luengo, Rodrigo Sorogoyen, Gael García Bernal, Raúl Arévalo and many other leading figures from the film industry.
The gala concluded with the Spanish premiere of The Beloved (El ser querido), directed by Rodrigo Sorogoyen and starring Javier Bardem and Victoria Luengo. The film explores the emotional reunion between a celebrated film director and his daughter as they confront unresolved family conflicts, past wounds and the possibility of reconciliation. The screening received a warm ovation from the audience and brought to a close the festival’s most successful edition to date.
During the ceremony, the festival also announced its main awards. Lionel, directed by Carlos Saiz, won Best Film in the Official Competition, while Mala bèstia, directed by Bàrbara Farré, received the Dama Agustí Villaronga Award for Best Spanish Film. Blue Film, by Elliot Turtle, was named Best Trends Film, La carn, by Joan Porcel, won Best Balearic Feature Film, La barraca, by Júlia Castaño, was recognised as Best Short Film, and the documentary The Cycle of Love (El ciclo del amor) received the Audience Award, bringing an outstanding edition of the festival to a memorable close.
