The Consell de Mallorca has held the first edition of “Mallorca, Tierra de Honor”, a new institutional distinction created to recognise outstanding personalities whose professional careers and close connection with the island have helped promote Mallorca’s identity, values and international reputation. The ceremony took place at the Costa Norte cultural venue in Valldemossa, bringing together institutional representatives and leading figures from civil society in an event designed to become one of Mallorca’s most significant official recognitions.
The initiative has been established as a long-term programme aimed at honouring individuals from fields such as culture, business, communication, science, sport and the arts who have strengthened Mallorca’s international profile. Its purpose is to acknowledge those who have contributed to promoting an image of the island associated with excellence, authenticity, cultural heritage, creativity, sustainability and quality of life, while encouraging a shared commitment to preserving its identity and natural environment.

The Consell de Mallorca appoints the island’s first Tierra de Honor ambassadors
The first edition recognised ten honorary ambassadors: international actor Michael Douglas, designer Pablo Erroz, Mallorcan pharmacist Marta Munar, entrepreneur Mar Aldeguer, journalists María Eugenia Yagüe and María Ángeles Alcázar, French journalist Bernardo Paz, model Sara Caballero, Rosario Nadal and Norma Duval. Each recipient was honoured for maintaining a strong connection with Mallorca and for helping to promote the island’s values through their respective professional fields to audiences both in Spain and abroad.
Speaking on behalf of the award recipients, Michael Douglas described Mallorca as his second home and highlighted the lasting personal bond he has developed with the island over the years. Each ambassador received a handcrafted silver Mallorcan cross pin inspired by one of the island’s most iconic traditional jewellery designs, symbolising identity, belonging and institutional recognition.
The event also celebrated Mallorcan culture through the performance of the song “Ca Nostra” and a gastronomic experience featuring local products, traditional recipes and contemporary cuisine paired with wines from the island and the traditional Valldemossa potato cake. Beyond the presentation of the awards, the gathering reinforced the responsible tourism strategy promoted by the Consell de Mallorca, encouraging respect for the island, the protection of its cultural and natural heritage and a shared commitment to safeguarding Mallorca’s future.
