The Balearic Institute for Women (IBDONA) trained a total of 257 professionals during the first half of 2026 through ten courses focused on the prevention, detection, care and professional response to gender-based violence. The programme combined basic and specialised training and involved professionals from across the Balearic Islands.
A total of 109 participants completed the basic course “Gender-based violence: Detection, care and support across different areas of intervention”. The 15-hour programme was delivered through four online editions and was aimed both at professionals working in services for victims of gender-based violence and at people from other professional fields interested in developing their knowledge of the subject.
The training addressed equality between women and men, their respective situations in different areas of society and professional life, and the causes and different manifestations of gender-based violence. Its purpose was to strengthen participants’ ability to identify situations of violence and provide appropriate care and support.

A further 103 professionals completed the 50-hour “Specialisation in sexual violence” course. The programme was designed for active professionals working in social services, psychology, healthcare, security and the legal sector who provide assistance to victims of sexual violence at different stages of the process.
Three blended-learning editions were held in Mallorca, Menorca and Eivissa. The training focused on improving professional capacity to intervene throughout the different situations a victim of sexual violence may experience, while providing practical tools for a multisectoral and multidisciplinary response.
Another 45 professionals completed the 20-hour, in-person course “Basic concepts for addressing prostitution, sexual exploitation and trafficking for the purpose of exploitation”. Sessions were held in Mallorca, Menorca and Eivissa for professionals in social services, psychology, security, law and healthcare whose responsibilities include preventing and detecting these situations and assisting women affected by prostitution, sexual exploitation or trafficking for sexual exploitation.
The programme provided participants with greater knowledge of intervention strategies and practical resources for supporting women affected by these forms of violence.
IBDONA will continue its professional training programme during the final quarter of 2026, with three new course editions scheduled from October. The online course on detecting, addressing and providing support in cases of gender-based violence will offer 60 additional places.
New editions of the two specialised programmes will also be held in Mallorca. The sexual violence specialisation course will provide 30 places, while the course addressing prostitution, sexual exploitation and trafficking for the purpose of exploitation will offer 60 places.
