Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM) will restore its regular timetables on Tuesday, 1 September, with increased frequencies and a higher number of daily trains compared with August. Services will also resume on both tracks between Son Fuster station and the Marratxí industrial estate, allowing both platforms at every station along this section to return to normal operation.

The railway service is returning to its usual schedule following the adjustments introduced during August. As it does every summer, SFM changed its timetables on 1 August to adapt its services to a period when passenger numbers are lower.

Since 2024, regular services have been maintained throughout July, with the reduced timetable limited to August. In previous years, the reduction was also applied during the second half of July.

SFM restores regular timetables, increases train frequencies and resumes double-track services between Son Fuster and Marratxí on 1 September

This summer, the major expansion and modernisation works at SFM’s Son Rullan workshops required additional changes compared with the previous year’s summer timetable. The phase of the project carried out during this period required trains to operate on a single track between Son Fuster and the Marratxí industrial estate, directly affecting railway operations.

SFM scheduled this critical stage of the works for August in order to minimise disruption for passengers during the period of lower demand.

The expansion and modernisation of the Son Rullan workshops involves an investment of more than €25 million. The project will adapt the facilities to the current and future requirements of the railway network and accommodate the sustained growth of rail transport.

The project is included in the Govern’s «Illes en transformació» plan and is financed mainly through funds from the REIB insularity factor. The works will completely modernise facilities that were originally designed for a different railway environment.

With regular services returning on 1 September, double-track operations will resume along the affected section. Train stops at the stations involved will also return to normal, with both platforms once again in use.

SFM has thanked passengers for their understanding and patience during the weeks affected by the temporary service changes and has expressed regret for the inconvenience caused. The railway operator states that the measures were necessary to allow progress on works aimed at modernising and improving the railway network.
