The Government of the Balearic Islands will resume archaeological excavation and investigation work under the V Plan de Fosas in Son Servera on 1 September. The work will continue at the municipal cemetery and expand to different private properties in the municipality, with the aim of advancing the location, exhumation and identification of people who disappeared during the Civil War.

This new phase continues the work that began in April at Son Servera cemetery. During that intervention, specialist teams worked in different areas of the site based on information obtained through historical research and previously collected testimonies.

The new operations will continue at the municipal cemetery while excavations will also begin at different private properties in Son Servera. The work will allow investigators to examine further the locations identified through historical documentation and the available testimonies.

Son Servera resumes V Plan de Fosas excavations at the municipal cemetery and private properties

If human remains are found, the established protocols will be followed for their recovery, examination and identification.

The V Plan de Fosas has also included work this year at Comellar Fondo in Son Servera. Archaeological operations carried out during July ruled out the presence of a mass grave in the surveyed area.

The new interventions will be undertaken by specialist teams from the UTE formed by Sociedad de Ciencias Aranzadi and ATICS.

Following the interventions carried out in Ibiza and Formentera, work is now continuing in Son Servera with the aim of further investigating the events, advancing the identification of victims, returning them to their families and ensuring them a dignified burial.
