The Regional Ministry of Families, Social Welfare and Dependency Care is allocating €1,258,000 to projects aimed at improving autonomy, quality of life and social integration for people with serious illnesses or disabilities in the Balearic Islands, while also supporting their caregivers. Funding under the scheme has increased by €150,000 compared with previous years.

The funding call, published this Saturday in the Butlletí Oficial de les Illes Balears (BOIB), will finance services provided through private non-profit organisations. The projects will cover care, prevention and measures to promote personal autonomy, providing direct support to beneficiaries and their caregivers.

Eligible projects will support people with cancer, Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, neurodegenerative diseases, rare diseases and physical or mental disabilities. The services are intended to help people maintain their abilities, pursue their life plans with the greatest possible degree of autonomy and participate in their communities on equal terms.

Funding for the programme has been increased by €150,000 this year compared with previous years, strengthening the resources available to the groups covered by the scheme.

Balearic Islands allocate €1.258 million to improve autonomy for people with serious illnesses or disabilities

Regional Minister for Families, Social Welfare and Dependency Care Sandra Fernández said that “behind every project there are people who need support to continue living their lives with the greatest possible autonomy, as well as families and caregivers who also need to feel supported.”

Fernández also stressed that “social organisations carry out essential work, very close to people, and from the Govern we want to give them stability so that they can continue providing this support.”

Projects may also provide services specifically for the caregivers of beneficiaries. All subsidised services must be provided free of charge and on a solidarity basis. Only occasional and symbolic contributions may be accepted, and these cannot under any circumstances constitute payment in return for the service.

The total budget of €1,258,000 is divided into two funding lines. A total of €534,000 is allocated to projects for people with cancer, Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, neurodegenerative diseases and rare diseases.

The remaining €724,000 will finance projects for people with disabilities.
