The Regional Ministry of the Sea and Water Cycle, through the Directorate General for Water Resources, has authorised the first phase of the project to improve the drinking water supply network in Cala Galdana, within the municipality of Ferreries. Promoted by Ferreries Town Council, the project will allow further progress in the renewal and improvement of the urbanisation’s water supply infrastructure.

The favourable resolution applies to the project drafted in August 2025 and approves the works in relation to their impact on the public hydraulic domain, the easement and protection zones around watercourses, and areas considered flood-prone or potentially at risk of flooding within the scope of the project.

Ferreries Town Council submitted its application to the Directorate General for Water Resources on 24 February 2026. After reviewing the documentation, the Public Hydraulic Domain Management Service issued a favourable technical report on 22 May.

The project was also submitted to a public consultation process. The announcement was published in the BOIB on 18 July and remained available for twenty working days on the Water Portal of the Government of the Balearic Islands. No objections were submitted during this period.

Cala Galdana moves forward with the first phase of its drinking water network upgrade

The authorisation establishes a series of technical requirements intended to ensure that the works do not adversely affect the hydraulic functioning of the area. These include specific conditions governing crossings of watercourse channels by the installations, with the aim of preserving their drainage capacity and protecting the public hydraulic domain.

The resolution will remain valid for four years from the day following its notification. Any substantial modification to the project that could affect hydraulic conditions will require a new technical report. Ferreries Town Council must also inform the Directorate General for Water Resources once the works have been completed.

The authorisation allows the first phase of the project to continue through the administrative process, with the aim of improving Cala Galdana’s drinking water supply and renewing its infrastructure while maintaining the necessary safeguards for watercourses and the public hydraulic domain.
