General health psychologists who will provide services in primary schools across the Balearic Islands have begun the academic year with a coordination meeting with the Regional Ministry of Education and Universities. The team consists of 11 professionals and will support pupils in the fifth and sixth years of primary education, providing a swift and specialised response to emotional and mental health needs.
The meeting brought together Neus Riera, Director General for Early Childhood, Attention to Diversity and Educational Improvement; representatives of the Institut per a la Convivència i l’Èxit Escolar (Convivèxit); and the professionals who make up the new team.
The 11 general health psychologists will be distributed across the islands, with six professionals in Mallorca, two in Menorca and three in the Pitiüses.
The service will operate at the request of schools, with the aim of providing a rapid and specialised response to specific needs that may arise among pupils.

The extension of the service to primary education expands an initiative launched in secondary schools during the 2024-2025 academic year and consolidated during 2025-2026. The programme now reaches the final two years of primary education to strengthen emotional and preventive support at this stage of children’s development.
The incorporation of general health psychologists into schools has helped improve the early detection of emotional difficulties and enabled preventive measures to be introduced before certain situations develop into more serious problems.
The service has also facilitated a more immediate response to cases involving vulnerability or emotional distress among pupils.
With the expansion to the fifth and sixth years of primary education, the Regional Ministry of Education and Universities is strengthening prevention, detection and early intervention mechanisms in schools, alongside measures to promote pupils’ emotional wellbeing.
