The archaeological site of Illot des Frares, located in the port of Colònia de Sant Jordi, is undergoing work aimed at improving the conservation of its remains while making the site easier to visit and interpret. Ports de les Illes Balears (PortsIB), through the Regional Ministry of the Sea and Water Cycle, is contributing €16,261 to the project.

The work is being carried out by specialist company Arqueocet under the direction of archaeologist Mateu Riera. The project includes several measures focused on the archaeological remains and their immediate surroundings.

The planned work includes clearing vegetation and removing rubble and waste. The visitor route and the area surrounding the archaeological remains will also be improved.

A new access point to the archaeological site will be opened, while two information panels will be installed with content explaining the history of the islet and its archaeological remains.

The project will make it possible to improve approximately 80% of the archaeological area. The intervention is also intended to facilitate future maintenance and improve access for visitors.

Through the project, PortsIB reinforces its commitment to conserving port areas and enhancing the cultural heritage associated with ports across the Balearic Islands.
