Kaoutar Rabhi, from IES Josep Sureda i Blanes, and Eva Tortajada, from IES Son Rullan, have been recognised in the 2026 edition of the Científic@s en Prácticas programme for the projects they developed during their training placements with research groups at the Health Research Institute of the Balearic Islands (IdISBa).

Both students completed their placements in June at IdISBa laboratories, temporarily joining research teams and taking part in real scientific activities alongside researchers.

Kaoutar Rabhi worked with the Innovation in Immunopathogenesis of Infections Group (GTERi), where she became familiar with methodologies and research lines related to infectious diseases and immune response.

Eva Tortajada joined the Inflammation, Repair and Cancer in Respiratory Diseases Group (iRespire). She has received a scholarship awarded ex aequo with Manuel Palomares, from the Complex Systems Group, with the two students sharing the financial award.

Two Balearic Islands students awarded for research carried out at IdISBa. A week inside biomedical research teams

In the 2026 edition, IdISBa welcomed students from IES Son Rullan and IES Josep Sureda i Blanes. They spent one week working with different research groups and learning first-hand how biomedical research is carried out.

The programme included basic training in laboratory techniques, visits to scientific facilities and direct participation in ongoing projects under the supervision of research staff.

The experience concluded with the preparation and presentation of the work completed during the placement, allowing participants to present their results and reflect on their experience in a scientific environment.

Científic@s en Prácticas is an initiative promoted by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Spanish Association for the Advancement of Science (AEAC), with the collaboration of the Healthcare Social Responsibility Network. Its aim is to bring scientific research closer to young people and encourage interest in research careers.

IdISBa’s participation in the initiative forms part of its commitment to science communication, the training of future researchers and bringing biomedical research closer to society.
