A coordinated operation between the Directorate-General for Public Health and SEPRONA officers from the Civil Guard resulted in the seizure of 20 tons of seafood products deemed unfit for human consumption. The inspection, carried out last April at a distribution company in Palma, uncovered large quantities of stock with expired best-before dates — some dating back to 2019 — as well as items that had broken the cold chain and were later refrozen.

Following the inspection, Public Health officials ordered the immediate immobilisation of all the products to prevent them from reaching consumers. A sanctioning procedure has also been initiated against the company for two very serious breaches of public health and consumer protection regulations, with a proposed fine of €90,000.
