\ The call for applications is a demonstration of the Government’s commitment to the region’s own language.
The Consell de Govern has authorised the Conselleria de Fons Europeus, Universitat i Cultura to call for grants for the Catalan-language media this year 2022. This line of subsidies is intended to ensure the continuity of the existing Catalan-language media and to promote the presence of this language in the communication landscape of the Balearic Islands.
This year, the amount of 700,000 euros has been increased compared to last year. The Government of the Balearic Islands is committed to supporting the media committed to the use of the Balearic Islands’ own language and wants to contribute to meeting their needs. The amount comes from the budget of the Directorate-General for Language Policy.
This aid is essential to guarantee the stability of the Catalan-language media in the archipelago, both written and audiovisual, an essential area for the promotion of the Catalan language, as recognised by the Linguistic Normalisation Act.
At the same time, the plurality of information in the Balearic Islands is guaranteed and stability is given to an important employment sector, which directly employs around a hundred people.
