The councillor for Social Affairs and Sports, Fina Santiago, accompanied by the director-general of Sports, Carles Gonyalons, has informed local councils and island councils of the announcement of a new line of aid aimed at improving and modernising sports facilities in the Balearic Islands. With a budget of 3.9 million euros, the call is open to local entities in the Autonomous Community and is aimed at modernising the existing network of sports facilities in the Autonomous Community within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan financed by the European Union – Next Generation EU.

The actions must be aimed at replacing the current energies used in their operation with others with lower pollutant emissions and the renewal of equipment to obtain maximum energy efficiency. Also for the digitalisation and improvement of accessibility. Energy efficiency interventions must achieve an average reduction in primary energy demand of at least 30%.

The call for proposals also establishes a series of priorities depending on the type of sports facility. The following order of preference is established when awarding subsidies:

1- Recognised sports facilities for sports technification.
2- Sports facilities where sports technification programmes recognised by the Directorate General for Sports are developed.
3- Sports facilities that provide supra-municipal services.

The deadline for submitting applications is three months from the day after the call for applications is published in the Official Bulletin of the Balearic Islands. The call for applications is expected to be published this Saturday. The subsidies, according to the criteria set by Europe, are linked to the improvement and reform of existing facilities, not for new ones.
