The affair, by Lis Domínguez García, is a love story based on personal experiences, which reflects the transformation of a transsexual woman in a relationship with a CIS man. The collection is structured in three phases: protection, sincerity and liberation. It is an intimate project that seeks to show society a different perspective of what it really means to be a transsexual woman through designs with a special essence.

The winning collection receives a cash prize of 2,000 euros.

The second prize, ex aequo of the competition, went to Illatra, by Patricia Perales, and Yügen, by Paula Escario, who received 500 euros each. The competition awards a further 2,000 euros to defray the winners’ expenses for the design and production of a new collection, which will be shown as a guest collection at Mallorca Design Day 2023.

Illatra, by Patricia Perales, was born from the romantic desire of not wanting a millenary tradition to be lost in the future of gears. The collection has been developed under the guidance of the master craftswoman from Artà, Aina Pistola, who has taught her and helped her to make Illatra, a braiding of garballó leaves with which basketry has historically been made. It mixes classic natural materials such as cotton, linen and garballó with a modern 3D technical fabric.

Yügen, by Paula Escario, is a journey from traditional Japanese clothing to the present day. It is a collection inspired by oriental nature in which the shapes, colours and textures stand out, which have been achieved through natural dyes, the versatility of the adaptable clothes and the use of vegetable fibre fabrics. All these techniques make it possible for the concept to form part of ethical and sustainable fashion.

The other participating collections were:

Relíquies de Familia, by Margalida Cifre Rotger, is a collection inspired by traditional Balearic farm worker clothing. Designed and made with recycled cotton, list and cotton and with the incorporation of handmade crochet needle pieces. Tradition, modernity and craftsmanship are reflected in the making of the pieces in this collection.

Catalina, by María Magdalena Niell Llobera, takes its inspiration from the history of Mallorcan fashion, the intention being to create clothing for contemporary men and women, closely linked to the Mallorcan countryside. For this collection’s drama and romanticism of this collection, there is no doubt that the perfect reference would be Jane Austen, so this collection is influenced by the setting of the books and films based on the literature of the English writer.

Chinbala, by Aina Andreu, is a collection inspired by nature and evolution. A fusion of organic sensations and another part, more defined and structured, inspired by society and its growth. Chinbala is bugs, animals, labels, prejudices, society and evolution.

New Happiness, by Elena Asorey, the collection is a reaction to minimalism that, inspired by the Menphis design group, unites the rejection of all tradition, order, what is commonplace and lacks individualism. It is a post-modern and pre-futurist proposal.

The competition jury, chaired by Pablo Erroz, an internationally renowned Mallorcan designer, was made up of Lorena Fernández, stylist and personal shopper; Maribel Bujosa, director of the company Téxtil Bujosa, a specialist in Mallorcan language fabrics, and Pau Aulí, theatre costume designer and winner of the Fashion Design competition of the Art Jove 2017 cultural programme.
