A total of 23 entities will learn about the measures being applied to promote the selective waste collection
The councillor for the Environment and Territory, Miquel Mir, and the director-general of Waste and Environmental Education, Sebastià Sansó, have met with the Valencian Association of Municipalities for Door-to-Door Collection to explain the application of regional regulations on waste prevention and management, especially with regard to the promotion of the door-to-door collection model.

Mir expressed his satisfaction that “the Balearic Islands is once again setting an example in terms of waste management. This is further proof that the model we are implementing is not only the future but the present if we want to tackle the effects of the climate emergency”.
For his part, Sansó stressed that selective collection and, above all, the differentiated treatment of organic waste, “is one of the great challenges we face not only in the islands but in the whole of Spain”. “The use of the fraction is not only important for achieving the objectives set out in the Waste Act and at the European level, but also for the recovery of the soil, which is suffering the consequences of desertification due to changes in use and climate change”.
In this regard, the director-general pointed out that, since last year, all municipalities in the archipelago have been obliged to collect organic waste separately. “Encouraging waste reduction and good selective collection are two of the pillars of our law, which we promote through the ‘polluter pay’ principle at all levels”, added Sansó, who highlighted the non-anonymous collection systems that are beginning to be implemented in some municipalities and “which will be the future for good waste management”, as well as the different systems established for pay-as-you-throw systems.
Representatives of 23 organisations from the País Valencià will also learn about the municipal collection experiences of Capdepera, Esporles, Manacor and Sant Llorenç.
