According to these data, for the second consecutive month the Islands have been able to register the same number of tourists that were received in May 2019, before the pandemic, while in the annual accumulated, the Balearic Islands closed May with 4 million tourists in total, which means having recovered 93.25% of the 4.29 million that arrived in the same month of 2019.

Of the total of 1.8 million tourists, the number of nationals arriving on the Islands during the fifth month of the year was 258,227, while the number of foreign travellers was 1.63 million, which represents a slight decrease of 0.5% compared to those who arrived in the same month of 2019 (1.89 million).

In April, the archipelago accounted for 23.4% of the total number of international visits registered in the country as a whole, and the German market was the best performer this month in the Balearic Islands, managing to capture more than half of the German tourists visiting Spain (56%).

In terms of tourist spending, as highlighted by the Tourism Expenditure Survey (EGATUR) also made public today by the National Statistics Institute (INE), the total expenditure of international tourists in the first five months of the year amounted to 3,641 million euros in total, 11.7% more than in 2019, when the figure was 3,263 million euros, and despite the fact that the number of arrivals is still below that of that year. In the month of May alone, total expenditure was 1,816 million, 12.7% more than the 1,611 million that closed the same month in 2019.
