With almost two weeks to go before the deadline for registration, the number of businesses participating throughout the islands, more than 530, already exceeds the figure of 512 of the 2021 call for entries.
The presentation took place at the Intersport sports shop, the 500th participating business, and was attended by José Javier Marí, president of the Associació de Comerciants d’Eivissa, of the Federació de la Petita i Mitjana Empresa d’Eivissa i Formentera (PIMEEF).
“We hope that these vouchers for small businesses, which worked very well last year, will once again be a success. Stimulating local consumption is especially important at this time of the end of the season and soaring inflation,” said regional secretary Jesús Jurado.
For his part, José Javier Marí, thanked the Government for its collaboration in promoting this initiative which, he said, “will be very useful for families as they head back to school”.
Before the presentation, the regional secretary and the director general of commerce met with the Ibiza and Formentera Chamber of Commerce and the Federació de la Petita i Mitjana Empresa d’Eivissa i Formentera (PIMEEF) to explain the latest developments in the last quarter of the year and analyse the implementation of the central government’s Royal Decree on energy savings in the Balearic Islands, which has been widely accepted by the sector and has had no negative repercussions for the islands’ commerce.
The meeting also analysed the forthcoming aid for the sector, foreseen in the 2023 budgets and in the Next Generation funds, on which the Vice-Presidency and Regional Ministry for Energy Transition and Productive Sectors is working, through the Directorate General for Trade, and which will be added to the different measures adopted throughout the legislature to favour the main challenges facing SMEs and promote local consumption, which is one of the pillars of economic diversification.
Bons Illes Balears
This programme plans to put into circulation one million euros in commercial vouchers starting in October in a campaign to stimulate small and medium-sized businesses in Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera, which will mobilise more than three million euros in local consumption.
The programme will be carried out in two phases: the first phase, during which shops can join the campaign via the platform www.bonsillesbalears.com, which will run until the 18th of September; and the second phase, which will begin on the 4th of October, the date from which the discount vouchers will be available to the public.
The campaign consists of distributing 67,000 15-euro vouchers throughout the islands, which can be exchanged for purchases of more than 30 euros. Each citizen aged 16 and over will have four vouchers, i.e. a maximum of 60 euros discount. Participating shops will ask customers for their ID card or equivalent document to verify that they meet the requirements and that they have credit available.
This campaign will remain open until 31 December of the same year or until the budget has been exhausted, and has the support of the business organisations of the trade of the Islands, which participate by distributing information on the requirements for joining the campaign among traders.
