The Consell de Govern has given the Councillor of European Funds, University and Culture, Miquel Company, the prior authorisation to grant a direct subsidy in favour of the Ateneu de Maó for an amount of 10,000 € for the digitalisation and inventory of its documentary collections, with a special dedication to the algae section.
With this participation, the Government of the Balearic Islands, through the Directorate General of Culture, recognises and supports the scientific and research work of a centenary entity such as the Ateneu de Maó, an ally of the research policies of the Department of European Funds, University and Culture.
The Ateneu de Maó was created in 1905 as one of the university extensions of non-regulated studies or popular university extension, born from the desire to extend scientific knowledge and artistic and literary studies and knowledge.
This genesis belongs to a very active society and to the group of Menorcan intellectuals who supported the first promoters.
It has been operating uninterruptedly since its creation, and its archive and library are available to all readers and researchers who wish to be welcomed by the institution. Its activities are open to everyone, along with the rest of the scientific and cultural institutions of Menorca, with which it collaborates.
