Deadline for applying for mobility grants for vocational training students

The call, which was published in the BOIB (no. 22, of 18 February 2023), is aimed at students enrolled, in the classroom mode, in a medium or higher level training cycle or in a vocational training specialisation course, provided that they take these studies in a public centre of the Balearic Islands on an island other than their island of residence.

A maximum of 250,000 euros will be allocated to these grants for the 2023-2024 academic year, an amount that will have to be distributed proportionally among all students who meet the requirements.

It should be noted that the grants are incompatible with scholarships for similar purposes (residence and travel) that may be received from any administration. They are also incompatible with any type of aid or grant for similar purposes from public or private entities.

Compensation for residence and travel expenses

This call for applications for grants aims to help students from the Balearic Islands to move around the islands and to compensate them for the costs of residence and travel when there are no places available on their island of residence. In this way, the aim is to encourage the continuity of studies in vocational training courses.

In fact, as a result of insularity, the vocational training offered by the public education system is concentrated in Mallorca, and this represents an additional difficulty and a reduction in opportunities for students from Eivissa, Menorca and Formentera. In addition, and in the case of the Balearic Islands, there are high housing prices and increased transport costs for people between the islands that make up the autonomous community, which make it even more difficult for students to move around the islands.

To be eligible for the mobility grants, you must be a Spanish national or a national of a member state of the European Union and non-EU foreigners residing in the Balearic Islands, there must be no places available for the studies requested in public centres on the island of residence and you must be enrolled in a public centre in a full year of a medium or higher level vocational training course, in a public educational centre of the Balearic Islands, during the academic year 2023-2024 located on a Balearic island other than the Balearic island where you are registered or in a specialisation course of vocational training in a public educational centre of the Balearic Islands, during the academic year 2023-2024 located on a Balearic island other than the Balearic island where you are registered.
