Balearic Islands rejects the convening of the Sectoral Conference of Tourism

The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Jaume Bauzà, has participated in person today in the first Tourism Sector Conference convened by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism in this legislature.

Bauzà, along with representatives of nine other communities, has rejected the agenda of the Sectoral Conference on Tourism convened by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism for Thursday because of the haste and lack of documentation on projects or programs of the importance and significance of those to be addressed.

The councillors have proposed to turn the meeting into a preparatory work meeting for the next Sectorial Conference which, given the importance and complexity of the issues to be addressed, should be convened sufficiently in advance, in time and form, to enable a constructive and effective debate.

Thus, the Regional Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports has sent a letter to the new Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, in which it asks him to reach a consensus on the object and initiatives of the agenda of the Sectorial given the high complexity of the projects or programs in question that require a minimum consensus and a rigorous study, to avoid any risk of possible loss of funds that in any way could be attributed to the autonomous communities.

In his opinion, it is a matter of achieving “an efficient execution of the funds” given “the complexity and importance of the initiatives to be addressed” and, in any case, the firm’s will to receive the funds has been made clear and that in no case will they be renounced.

It also recalls that the “hasty and of dubious legality” call today has not respected the ten days in advance provided by the implementing regulations, nor has it had documentation sent in sufficient time to address the complex agenda that includes projects or programs of the importance and significance.

In this sense, the call for the Sectorial Conference was received on Tuesday, December 5, in clear breach of the ten-day deadline, and without being accompanied by the final documents necessary for its due preparation, until hours before the Sectorial Conference was to be held.

Even just a few hours ago, no information was known about the so-called “Plans for Digital Competences in Tourism” and “Plans for the Social Sustainability of Tourism”, which imply the new distribution of funds among the different Autonomous Communities and Cities within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
